VoLTE or Voice over LTE is not a new technology, but it available on your OnePlus 8 smartphone to enable.
One of the main advantages to using VoLTE for phone calls is that you’re going to get better sounding audio on the other end. And you also get better coverage. Since LTE networks are more up-to-date and bigger than traditional voice networks. Basically what this means is that you’re going to notice a huge difference in the quality of voice calls once you enable it.
Now, VoLTE should be enabled by default on the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro, but you can still enable it if you need to. And here’s how you can do it.
1. How to enable VoLTE on OnePlus 8
Firstly, you need to head into the settings app.
Now tap on WiFi & Network, which should be the first option.
Next, tap on SIM & Network.
Then flip the switch next to VoLTE. It should be the first option, and under the “Enhanced Communications” section on this page.
And that’s it, for turning on VoLTE. It’s just that easy.

2. What is VoLTE?
You might be wondering what VoLTE is and why you would want to turn it on. Well, as we explained already, it allows you to make and receive calls over the data network, LTE in this case.
By using LTE to make calls, you’re going to experience better sounding calls, as it can use HD Voice better than a traditional voice network can. Traditional voice networks run on 1XRTT, which is a really old network, and really hasn’t been improved on in decades. So it’s fairly limited in what it can actually do.

Every major carrier supports VoLTE, so you might as well take advantage of it. And with everyone having unlimited data as an option now, you won’t need to worry about it using up your data. Though it wouldn’t anyways. As that is counted as minutes and not towards your data plan.
As mentioned, VoLTE should be enabled by default on the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. But if for some reason it is not, you do have the option to enable it. And you can also remove it from the status bar, if you prefer a cleaner looking status bar on your OnePlus 8 smartphone.
OnePlus 8 does also support VoIP, which is the same thing, but over WiFi instead of LTE. And this is great if you’re in an area where your carrier doesn’t have great signal.
